The Pillows - Fool on the Planet

There is an overwhelming feeling I get when I listen to this song, and by the last chorus I'm almost driven to tears from the emotion I get out of Sawao's vocals. The lyrics are all about having hope in your life, overcoming bad times knowing that tomorrow is always another day; one man's declaration of independence against a world that has turned its back on him. I love how the music goes from being all low key during the verses, into an explosive and passionate chorus. The chorus in this song is the most all-inclusive band sound I’ve heard from The Pillows, you can 'feel' them playing together. And the breakdown before the last choruses is like the calm before a storm; slowly building up and then Shin breaks out the PERFECT drum fill to bring it back into the chorus again. In fact, I think that every transition in this song is excellent, either building up or cooling down the overall tone of the song. I can't help but be swept up in the power of this song every time I hear it.

+ entries must be received by may 15, 2005 11:59 PM EST to qualify.

+ contest is open to residents of any country that amazon.com will ship to (see here) but japan. if you are studying abroad or otherwise temporarily residing in japan you may not enter either. you guys have easy access to pillows stuff so it's not quite fair. ;)

+ entries which are profane, obscene or otherwise objectionable will be disqualified.

+ entries longer than 200 words will be disqualified.

+ winner will be selected by two independent judges (as in, not me). two runners up will also be selected.

+ the winning entry will be posted on the site.

+ the winner will be contacted via email no later than may 31, 2005 and be asked to submit his/her mailing address. if the winner does not respond within 5 days, he/she no longer qualifies for the prize and the first runner up will be contacted. if the first runner up does not respond within 5 days, the process will repeat for the second runner up.

+ when i receive the winner's mailing address, i will order the prize from amazon and send it directly to the winner via standard domestic or standard international shipping, and email the winner regarding the shipping date.

+ i reserve the right to offer a substitution in the event the cd is not available from amazon.

+ i am NOT responsible for the post office, customs, or amazon. in other words if one or the other screws up and the package gets lost, i will not replace it. if you live in a country other than the u.s., any customs fees will be YOUR responsibility. i am also not responsible if the package gets tied up in customs.
